Pasta

Cheese Sauce

Topping (optional)

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil over high heat. Add a pinch of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook the Macaroni

Add 2 cups of macaroni pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt the Butter

In the same pot, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour until smooth. Cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk while continuously whisking to prevent lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Remove the pot from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of paprika until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining and Serving

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 9

    Prepare Optional Topping

If using, mix together 1 cup of breadcrumbs and 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese in a small bowl.

  3. 10

    Serve or Bake

You can serve the macaroni & fromage as is, or transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
