Crust

Method

Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the crust

In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined and the mixture resembles wet sand.

  2. 2

    Press into the pan

Press the crust mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Pre-bake the crust (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). If desired, bake the crust for 8-10 minutes until set and lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Layer the coconut

Evenly sprinkle the sweetened shredded coconut over the crust, covering it completely.

  2. 5

    Add the chocolate chips

Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the coconut layer, spreading them evenly.

  3. 6

    Add the nuts

Sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the chocolate chips, ensuring an even layer.

  4. 7

    Pour the condensed milk

Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the layers, making sure to cover all ingredients.

Baking

  1. 8

    Bake the Hello Dollies

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) if not already done. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

  2. 9

    Cool and cut

Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. Serve them as bars.
