Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Fettuccini

In a large pot of salted boiling water, add the fettuccini pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, reserve about 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Making the Alfredo Sauce

  1. 3

    Melt Butter

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 5

    Stir in Cream

Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

  4. 6

    Incorporate Parmesan

Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until fully melted and smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.

  5. 7

    Season the Sauce

Season with salt and black pepper to taste, adjusting as necessary.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  1. 8

    Combine

Add the drained fettuccini pasta to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly in the sauce.

  2. 9

    Add Protein (if desired)

If using, add the sautéed chicken or shrimp to the pasta and gently toss until combined and heated through.

Serving

  1. 10

    Plate and Serve

Serve the Fettuccini Alfredo immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese and freshly cracked black pepper if desired.
