Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into 8 oz patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice crust forms. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes. During the last minute of cooking, place 1 oz of aged cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 3

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Slice the tomato into thick rounds and thinly slice the red onion.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 4

    Build the Burger

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown. Place the bottom half of the bun on a plate, add the lettuce leaves, followed by the burger patty topped with melted cheddar. Layer the tomato slices and red onion on top, and finish with the top half of the bun.
