Method

Preparing the Fish

  1. 1

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and well combined.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Batter the Fish

Dip each cod fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.

  4. 4

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Preparing the Fries

  1. 5

    Cut the Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into fries or wedges, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

In the same oil used for frying the fish, fry the potatoes in batches for about 5-6 minutes until they are golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.

Making the Coleslaw

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, grated carrot, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

  2. 8

    Chill the Slaw

Cover the coleslaw and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Making the Tartar Sauce

  1. 9

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped dill pickles, chopped capers, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.
