Catfish Fillet

Sandwich Assembly

Method

Frying Catfish

  1. 1

    Marinate Catfish

In a bowl, soak the catfish fillets in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a separate bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat and Fry

Remove catfish from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring even coating. Fry in hot oil until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  5. 5

    Drain

Remove fried catfish from the skillet and drain on paper towels.

Making Tartar Sauce

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, mix together mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 7

    Prepare the Rolls

Slice the hoagie rolls in half and lightly toast if desired.

  2. 8

    Layer the Ingredients

Spread tartar sauce on the bottom half of each roll. Add a layer of lettuce, followed by a slice of tomato, and top with the fried catfish fillet.

  3. 9

    Finish the Sandwich

Top with more tartar sauce and cover with the top half of the roll. Serve immediately.
