Method
Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Meat
In a large bowl, combine barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well. Marinate the pork shoulder, whole chicken, chicken thighs, and turkey breast in the mixture for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Cooking
- 2
Cook the Meats
Preheat your grill or smoker to medium heat (about 225°F to 250°F). Remove the meat from the marinade and place it on the grill. Cook the pork shoulder for 6-8 hours until tender, the whole chicken for 1.5-2 hours until the internal temperature reaches 165°F, the chicken thighs for 1-1.5 hours, and the turkey breast for about 1.5 hours.
- 3
Baste with Sauce
During the last 30 minutes of cooking, baste the meats with the remaining barbecue sauce to enhance flavor and moisture.
Serving
- 4
Serve
Once the meats are fully cooked, remove them from the grill, let them rest for 10-15 minutes, then slice or shred as desired. Serve with coleslaw, cornbread, and pickles on the side.
