Method
Pulled Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks. Season with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and cumin.
- 2
Sauté Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat a bit of oil over medium heat. Add sliced onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- 3
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork chunks into a slow cooker. Add the sautéed onions and garlic, BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and water. Mix well. Cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is very tender and can be easily shredded.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, mixing it with the sauce. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Sandwich Assembly
- 5
Toast the Buns
Lightly toast the burger buns on a grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
- 6
Assemble the Sandwich
On the bottom half of each bun, layer a generous portion of pulled pork, followed by coleslaw, jalapeños, pickles, and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese. Top with the other half of the bun.
- 7
Serve
Serve the sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping.
