Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until bubbly and golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, whisking frequently, until the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes).

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheese

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of paprika. Mix until well combined.

Combine and Bake

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 6

    Prepare for Baking

If using, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish and pour the mac and cheese mixture into it. Top with 1 cup of breadcrumbs and 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese.

  3. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Remove the mac and cheese from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm and enjoy your homemade mac and cheese!
