Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brisket

Remove the brisket from its packaging and pat it dry with paper towels. Trim excess fat if necessary.

  2. 2

    Season the Brisket

In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Rub this seasoning mixture all over the brisket, ensuring even coverage.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sear the Brisket

In a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, add a small amount of oil. Once hot, sear the brisket on all sides until browned (about 4-5 minutes per side).

  2. 4

    Prepare Cooking Liquid

In a separate bowl, mix together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and optional liquid smoke if using.

  3. 5

    Cook the Brisket

Place the seared brisket in a slow cooker or roasting pan. Pour the cooking liquid over the brisket. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.

Serving

  1. 6

    Rest and Slice

Once cooked, remove the brisket from the cooker and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices.

  2. 7

    Serve

Slice against the grain and serve with BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
