Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sushi Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice and water in a rice cooker or saucepan, and cook according to the rice cooker instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until tender. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Season the Rice

In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Once the rice is done, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Fillings

While the rice is cooling, drain the canned tuna and place it in a bowl. Mash it lightly with a fork and set it aside. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and slice it thinly.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Rolls

Lay a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, and spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge. Place a line of tuna and a few slices of avocado in the center of the rice. Roll the sushi tightly from the bottom using the mat, applying gentle pressure.

  5. 5

    Slice and Serve

Once rolled, use a sharp knife to slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and serve with soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
