Ingredients for Kimchi Chigae

Method

Directions to Make Kimchi Chigae

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Chop the kimchi, tofu, and green onions. If using pork belly or beef, cut it into small pieces. Mince the garlic.

  2. 2

    Cook the Meat

In a large pot, add sesame oil and heat it over medium heat. Add the pork belly or beef, if using, and sauté until browned.

  3. 3

    Add Kimchi and Garlic

Add the chopped kimchi and minced garlic to the pot. Stir well and cook for about 5 minutes until the kimchi is softened.

  4. 4

    Add Gochugaru and Soy Sauce

Stir in the gochugaru and soy sauce. Mix thoroughly to combine with the kimchi.

  5. 5

    Add Water or Broth

Pour in the water or broth, and bring the mixture to a boil.

  6. 6

    Add Tofu and Seasonings

Once boiling, add the tofu and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.

  7. 7

    Finish with Green Onions

Before serving, stir in the chopped green onions. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

  8. 8

    Serve

Ladle the kimchi chigae into bowls and enjoy it hot, preferably with steamed rice.
