Method

Making the Dough

  1. 1

    Prepare Yeast Mixture

In a small bowl, combine warm water (not hot) and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the instant yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and the remaining instant yeast.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, combine the warm milk, melted unsalted butter, and the egg. Mix well until combined.

  4. 4

    Form the Dough

Add the yeast mixture and the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon until a rough dough forms.

  5. 5

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  6. 6

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking the Rolls

  1. 7

    Shape the Rolls

After the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

  2. 8

    Second Rise

Place the shaped rolls on a greased baking sheet, leaving enough space between them. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.

  3. 9

    Preheat Oven

While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  4. 10

    Bake the Rolls

Once the rolls have puffed up, bake them in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  5. 11

    Prepare Topping

Melt the remaining unsalted butter and mix with sea salt and garlic powder. Brush this mixture over the warm rolls as soon as they come out of the oven.

  6. 12

    Serve

Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your freshly baked rolls!
