For the Patty Melt
Method
Preparation of the Patty Melt
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Thinly slice the medium onion. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- 2
Form the Beef Patty
While the onions are cooking, season the ground beef with salt (0.5 tsp) and black pepper (0.25 tsp). Form the beef into a patty that is slightly larger than the size of your bread, as it will shrink while cooking.
- 3
Cook the Patty
In the same skillet used for the onions, add the beef patty over medium-high heat. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until it develops a nice crust. Flip the patty and add the slices of Swiss cheese on top. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the patty is cooked to your desired doneness.
