Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside in a bowl.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

  2. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add cold water to the dry mixture, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off before frying.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Turn them occasionally for even cooking.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once fried, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
