Method

Cook the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add the mostaccioli pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Make the Meat Sauce

  1. 3

    Brown the Beef

In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Aromatics

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the browned beef. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture

  1. 6

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth.

Assemble the Dish

  1. 7

    Layer Ingredients

In a large baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Add half of the cooked mostaccioli pasta, followed by half of the cheese mixture. Repeat the layers, ending with the remaining meat sauce on top.

  2. 8

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.

Bake

  1. 9

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 10

    Bake the Mostaccioli

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serve

  1. 11

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before serving. Cut into squares and enjoy!
