Method

Preparing the Shrimp

  1. 1

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the egg and add cold water. Mix until combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. The batter should be thick enough to coat the shrimp.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making the French Fries

  1. 6

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into thick fries (about 1/4 inch wide).

  2. 7

    Soak the Fries

Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  3. 8

    Heat the Oil

In another pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 9

    Fry the Fries

Fry the soaked fries in batches until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels, seasoning with salt to taste.

Making the Coleslaw

  1. 10

    Prepare the Vegetables

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and shredded carrot.

  2. 11

    Make the Dressing

In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and salt to taste.

  3. 12

    Combine and Serve

Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to combine. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before serving.
