Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Prepare the Spices

Crush the cardamom pods slightly using a mortar and pestle. Peel the fresh ginger and slice it into thin pieces.

Brewing the Tea

  1. 2

    Boil the Water

In a medium saucepan, bring the 2 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 3

    Add Tea and Spices

Once the water is boiling, add the black tea leaves, crushed cardamom, sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, and cloves to the boiling water.

  3. 4

    Simmer

Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Finishing the Masala Chai

  1. 5

    Add Milk and Sugar

Stir in the 1 cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of sugar into the brewed tea mixture. Increase the heat slightly and bring it back to a gentle boil.

  2. 6

    Strain and Serve

Once it's boiling, remove from heat. Strain the masala chai into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the tea leaves and spices. Serve warm.
