Prepare the Spices
Crush the cardamom pods slightly using a mortar and pestle. Peel the fresh ginger and slice it into thin pieces.
Brewing the Tea

Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring the 2 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

Add Tea and Spices
Once the water is boiling, add the black tea leaves, crushed cardamom, sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, and cloves to the boiling water.

Simmer
Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Strain and Serve
Once it's boiling, remove from heat. Strain the masala chai into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the tea leaves and spices. Serve warm.
