Method

Chai Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add Tea and Spices

Once the water is boiling, add 4 tablespoons of black tea leaves, 4 whole cardamom pods, and 1 piece of cinnamon stick. Stir well.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.

  4. 4

    Sweeten the Chai

Add 4 tablespoons of sugar to the pot, stirring until completely dissolved.

  5. 5

    Add Evaporated Milk

Pour in 1 cup of evaporated milk and stir well. Allow the chai to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

  6. 6

    Strain the Chai

Remove from heat and strain the chai through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to remove the tea leaves and spices.

Serving the Iced Chai

  1. 7

    Prepare Glasses

Fill two tall glasses with ice cubes (about 1 cup of ice per glass).

  2. 8

    Pour Chai

Divide the strained chai mixture evenly between the two glasses over the ice.

  3. 9

    Garnish

Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon and cardamom powder on top of each glass. Add fresh mint leaves for garnish if desired.
