Buttermilk Biscuits

Eggs and Cheese

Gravy

Method

Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. 1

    Prepare Biscuit Dough

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Buttermilk

Stir in the buttermilk until just combined. Do not overmix.

  3. 3

    Shape Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface, fold it over a few times, then pat it into a 1-inch thick round. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.

  4. 4

    Bake

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Fried Chicken

  1. 5

    Marinate Chicken

In a bowl, soak the chicken breast in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to tenderize and flavor the meat.

  2. 6

    Prepare Breading

In another bowl, mix the flour, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  3. 7

    Bread the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, pressing to adhere.

  4. 8

    Fry Chicken

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and let drain on paper towels.

Eggs and Cheese

  1. 9

    Cook Eggs

In a non-stick skillet, scramble or fry the eggs according to your preference.

  2. 10

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, sprinkle the cheddar cheese over the eggs and allow it to melt.

Gravy

  1. 11

    Make Roux

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until golden, stirring continuously.

  2. 12

    Add Chicken Broth

Slowly whisk in the chicken broth, making sure there are no lumps. Continue to whisk until the gravy thickens.

  3. 13

    Season Gravy

Add salt and black pepper to taste. Keep warm until ready to serve.
