Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until fully combined. The batter will be thin.
Bake the Cakes
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Filling Preparation
Make the Chocolate Filling
In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until melted and smooth. Mix in powdered sugar. Allow to cool before using.
Ganache Preparation
Make the Ganache
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until melted and smooth. Allow to cool slightly before using.
Assembly
Assemble the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the top. Place the second layer on top.
Add Ganache
Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
Decorate
Top the cake with chocolate curls and let the ganache set before serving.
