Method
Calzone Directions
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Stir in olive oil, salt, and flour gradually until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Prepare the Filling
In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, oregano, black pepper, grated Romano cheese, and chopped parsley until well combined.
- 4
Assemble the Calzones
Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 8 inches in diameter. Place a generous scoop of filling on one half of the circle, then fold the other half over the filling and crimp the edges to seal.
- 5
Bake the Calzones
Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut small slits on top for steam to escape. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- 6
Serve
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
