Scone Ingredients

Method

Scone Preparation

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3

Cut in Butter

Cut the cold butter into small pieces and add to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4

Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and egg.

5

Form the Dough

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

6

Shape Scones

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.

7

Bake

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

8

Cool and Serve

Let the scones cool slightly on a wire rack before serving with Devonshire clotted cream, seasonal curd, and fresh strawberries.
