Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or a food processor. Rinse the grated potatoes in cold water to remove excess starch, then drain well and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Onion

Finely chop the onion and sauté it in a large skillet over medium heat with 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes, sautéed onions, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

  4. 4

    Cook the Hash Browns

Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the potato mixture in an even layer. Press down gently with a spatula and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown.

  5. 5

    Flip and Finish Cooking

Carefully flip the hash browns using a large plate or a spatula and cook the other side for another 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from heat and let drain on paper towels. Serve hot, garnished with additional salt and pepper to taste.
