Method

Preparation of Shrimp

  1. 1

    Clean the Shrimp

Rinse the jumbo Gulf shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Remove the shells and devein if not already done.

  2. 2

    Season the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the shrimp, ensuring they are evenly coated. Let marinate for 15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Prepare Breading Station

Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with all-purpose flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.

  4. 4

    Bread the Shrimp

Dredge each shrimp in flour, shaking off excess, then dip in beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Place breaded shrimp on a plate.

Frying the Shrimp

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and drain on paper towels.

Preparation of Fries

  1. 7

    Cut the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into even-sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 8

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry with paper towels.

Frying the Fries

  1. 9

    Heat the Oil for Fries

In another large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 10

    Fry the Fries

Carefully add the soaked fries to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.

Serving

  1. 11

    Plate the Dish

Serve the fried shrimp on a platter alongside the fries. Optionally, garnish with lemon wedges and dipping sauce of choice.
