Directions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring continuously. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is well-coated.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Panko Topping

In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with olive oil and a sprinkle of smoked paprika. Stir until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

  6. 6

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish and sprinkle the panko mixture evenly on top. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Serve

Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Cheddar Mac and Cheese!
