Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add the cold butter, cut into small pieces, to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and egg until well combined.

  5. 5

    Form the Dough

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in your choice of flavoring (dried fruit, chocolate chips, or nuts).

  6. 6

    Shape the Scones

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter to form individual scones.

  7. 7

    Bake

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
