Meatballs and Toppings
Method
Preparation Steps
Make the Meatballs
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until fully combined.
Form the Meatballs
Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
Cook the Meatballs
In a skillet over medium heat, add a bit of oil and cook the meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
Prepare the Ciabatta
While the meatballs are cooking, slice the ciabatta bread in half and lightly toast it if desired.
Assemble the Meatball Parmgiana
Once the meatballs are cooked, place them on the bottom half of the ciabatta. Spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs and top with sliced fresh mozzarella.
Melt the Cheese
Place the assembled sandwich under a broiler for about 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Add Fresh Basil
Remove from oven, sprinkle with additional fresh basil if desired, and place the top half of the ciabatta over the cheese.
Serve
Cut the sandwich in half and serve warm.
