Taco Filling

Taco and Tamale Toppings

Method

Taco Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Beef

In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and onions are translucent, about 7-10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Season the Beef

Stir in taco seasoning and a small amount of water (about 1/4 cup). Simmer for 5 minutes until well combined and heated through.

Tamale Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Masa

In a large bowl, combine corn masa flour with vegetable broth. Mix until a dough forms. It should be moist but not sticky.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Filling

In a separate bowl, mix shredded chicken with chili powder and cheddar cheese until combined.

  3. 5

    Assemble the Tamales

Take a small amount of masa dough and flatten it out in your hands. Place a tablespoon of the chicken filling in the center and fold the masa around it to form a pocket. Wrap in corn husks.

Cooking the Tamales

  1. 6

    Steam the Tamales

Place the wrapped tamales in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam for about 1 hour, or until the masa is firm.

Taco and Tamale Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble Tacos

In taco shells, add the cooked beef mixture and top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, and avocado slices.

  2. 8

    Serve the Tamales

Once the tamales are finished steaming, unwrap and serve hot with your choice of toppings.
