Pie Crust

Topping (Optional)

Method

Pie Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Shape the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

After chilling, divide the dough in half. Roll out one half on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place in the dish and trim the edges.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Blackberries

Rinse the blackberries under cold water and drain well. Place them in a large mixing bowl.

  2. 6

    Mix the Filling

In the bowl with blackberries, add the sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Gently toss to combine.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 7

    Fill the Pie Crust

Pour the blackberry filling into the prepared pie crust, ensuring even distribution.

  2. 8

    Top the Pie

Roll out the second half of the dough and cover the pie. Seal the edges by crimping with your fingers or a fork. Cut slits in the top for steam to escape.

  3. 9

    Brush with Milk and Sugar

Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle sugar on top for a nice glaze.

  4. 10

    Bake the Pie

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

  5. 11

    Cool and Serve

Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the filling to set.
