Method
Prepare Sticky Rice
- 1
Soak the Rice
Rinse 1 cup of glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- 2
Steam the Rice
Drain the soaked rice and place it in a bamboo or metal steamer lined with cheesecloth. Steam the rice for about 20-25 minutes until it becomes translucent and sticky.
Make Coconut Sauce
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Do not let it boil.
- 4
Mix with Rice
Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and pour about half of the coconut sauce over the rice. Stir gently to combine and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Prepare Toppings and Serve
- 5
Prepare Mango
Peel and slice the ripe mangoes into thin strips or wedges.
- 6
Assemble the Dish
To serve, place a generous portion of the sticky rice on a plate, top with sliced mango, and drizzle with the remaining coconut sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or mung beans if desired.
