Naan Dough

Method

Preparation of Naan

1

Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

2

Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

3

Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

4

Prepare Garlic Topping

Finely chop fresh garlic and cilantro. Set aside.

5

Shape Naan

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten each ball into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

6

Add Garlic

Sprinkle the chopped garlic and cilantro over one side of each naan and gently press to adhere.

7

Bake Naan

Preheat your tandoor oven or a pizza stone in your regular oven at the highest setting. Bake each naan for 2-3 minutes, or until puffed and lightly charred.

8

Serve

Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter or ghee if desired. Serve warm.
