Pizza Dough and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Baking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add olive oil, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 4
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface.
- 5
Add the Toppings
Spread a layer of tomato sauce over each pizza base. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly on top. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 6
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- 7
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve hot.
