Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beans

Rinse the dried black beans under cold water and pick out any debris. Soak the beans in water overnight or for at least 6 hours.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beans

Drain the soaked beans and place them in a large pot. Add 4 cups of fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until beans are tender.

  3. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a separate pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine and Season

Once the beans are cooked, add the sautéed onion and garlic to the pot. Stir in salt, cumin, and black pepper. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes to blend flavors.

  5. 5

    Serve

Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving. Enjoy your frijol warm, either as a main dish or side.
