Arepa, Cheese, and Steak

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Arepa Dough

In a large bowl, mix the cornmeal, water, and salt until a dough forms. Let it rest for about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Shape the Arepas

Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a flat, round disc about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Arepas

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of oil. Cook the arepas for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steak

Season the steak with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-sear the steak over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare (or to your desired doneness). Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Arepa

Slice the cooked arepas in half and stuff them with shredded cheese and sliced grilled steak. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
