Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, lime juice, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Add the flank steak and marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight in the refrigerator.

  2. 2

    Cook the Onions

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  3. 3

    Grill the Steak

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and grill for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Let rest for a few minutes before slicing.

  4. 4

    Combine

Return the cooked onions to the skillet, add the sliced steak, and toss to combine, allowing the flavors to meld for about 2-3 minutes.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Plantains

Peel the plantains and slice them diagonally. In a separate pan, heat oil over medium heat and fry the plantain slices until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Sprinkle with brown sugar and let caramelize for an additional minute.
