Sopapillas

Churros

Honey

Method

Sopapillas

  1. 1

    Prepare the dough

In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the water and vegetable oil, and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover with a towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Roll and cut

After resting, roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares or triangles.

  3. 3

    Fry the sopapillas

Heat the oil for frying in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the dough pieces until they puff up and turn golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

Churros

  1. 4

    Make churro dough

In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour until a dough forms. Let cool for a few minutes.

  2. 5

    Add eggs

Incorporate the eggs one at a time into the dough, mixing well after each addition until smooth. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.

  3. 6

    Fry the churros

Heat oil for frying in a deep pan over medium heat. Pipe the dough into the hot oil, cutting with scissors to create churro shapes. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels and coat in cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Chocolate Sauce

  1. 7

    Prepare the chocolate sauce

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until melted and smooth. Add vanilla extract and mix well.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Serve the sopapillas and churros warm with honey drizzled on top and a side of warm chocolate sauce for dipping.
