Method

Preparation of Bread Base

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bread

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the bread cubes evenly on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes until lightly golden and dry. Remove from the oven and let cool.

  2. 2

    Melt Butter

In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.

Sautéing Vegetables and Herbs

  1. 3

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the diced onion and celery to the melted butter in the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic and Herbs

Stir in the minced garlic, chopped sage, thyme, and rosemary. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 5

    Combine with Bread

In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes with the sautéed vegetable mixture.

  2. 6

    Season and Moisten

Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and season with salt and black pepper. If using, add dried cranberries and chopped nuts. Mix gently until the bread is moistened but not mushy.

Baking the Stuffing

  1. 7

    Transfer and Bake

Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, cover with aluminum foil, and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
