Brisket Preparation
Method
Brisket Cooking Instructions
Prepare the Brisket
Take the beef brisket out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps the meat cook evenly.
Season the Brisket
Rub the brisket with olive oil. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Generously rub this spice mixture all over the brisket.
Sear the Brisket
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the brisket in the skillet and sear on all sides until well-browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
Prepare for Braising
Transfer the seared brisket to a slow cooker or a large Dutch oven. Pour the beef broth over the brisket.
Cook the Brisket
If using a slow cooker, set it on low and cook for 8-10 hours. If using a Dutch oven, cover and place in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 4-5 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
Rest and Slice
Once cooked, remove the brisket from the heat and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing against the grain. This helps retain the juices.
