Method
Tempura Shrimp Directions
- 1
Prepare the Tempura Batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and baking powder. Gradually add the cold water and mix until just combined. The batter should be lumpy. Add ice cubes to keep the batter cold.
- 2
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 3
Coat the Shrimp
Dip each shrimp into the tempura batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 4
Fry the Shrimp
Carefully place the batter-coated shrimp into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes). Remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Serve
Serve the tempura shrimp hot with house tartar sauce and Calabrian chili cocktail sauce on the side.
