Gnocchi and Bolognese Sauce

Method

Preparation Steps

1

Make the Gnocchi

1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and let cool slightly. Peel and mash the potatoes until smooth. Let cool completely.

2

Form the Dough

2. In a large bowl, combine the cooled mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until a dough forms. If too sticky, add a bit more flour.

3

Shape the Gnocchi

3. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll into 1/2-inch thick ropes. Cut into 1-inch pieces and use a fork to create ridges.

4

Cook the Gnocchi

4. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop in the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.

5

Prepare the Bolognese Sauce

5. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent.

6

Brown the Meat

6. Add ground beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

7

Add Tomatoes

7. Stir in the San Marzano tomatoes, breaking them up with a spoon. Simmer for 20-25 minutes until the sauce thickens.

8

Fry the Basil

8. In a small pan, heat oil and fry fresh basil leaves until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

9

Serve

9. Serve the gnocchi topped with Bolognese sauce, a dollop of whipped ricotta, crispy basil, and drizzle with basil oil.
