Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Pat the N.Y. strip steak dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and black pepper on both sides. Let the steak sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderness.

  2. 2

    Sear the Steak

In a cast-iron skillet or heavy frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it's shimmering. Add the minced garlic and chopped rosemary to the oil. Then, carefully place the steak in the skillet.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a golden-brown crust forms. Flip the steak and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or adjust time as desired for doneness.

  4. 4

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This allows juices to redistribute for a more tender bite.

Asparagus Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Asparagus

While the steak is resting, prepare the asparagus. Trim the woody ends off the asparagus spears.

  2. 6

    Cook the Asparagus

In the same skillet used for the steak, add olive oil over medium heat. Add the asparagus, season with salt and black pepper. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the asparagus is tender and slightly browned.
