Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes until well blended.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water into the batter. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting Mixture

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until the butter is melted.

  2. 8

    Add Coconut and Pecans

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded coconut and chopped pecans. Mix well until fully combined.

  3. 9

    Cool the Frosting

Let the frosting cool for about 30 minutes before using it to frost the cake.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes have cooled completely, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  2. 11

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve. Enjoy your delicious German Chocolate Cake!
