For the Onion Rings

Method

Preparation of Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Slice Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together to ensure there are no lumps.

  3. 3

    Add Beer

Gradually add the beer to the dry mixture, whisking until the batter is smooth and thick. Let the batter rest for about 10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Dip and Fry

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, a few at a time, without overcrowding the pan.

  6. 6

    Fry until Golden

Fry the onion rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
