Method
Onion Ring Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel and slice the sweet yellow onions into 1/4-inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings from each other.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually add the cold water, whisking until smooth and well combined.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip the onion rings into the batter, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- 5
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil. Fry in batches, without overcrowding, for about 2-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Stack the Rings
Once fried, stack the onion rings in a tall tower on a serving platter.
Sauce Preparation
- 7
Make the Campfire Sauce
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Mix well until smooth and uniform.
- 8
Serve the Sauces
Place the campfire sauce and ranch dressing in small bowls alongside the onion ring tower for dipping.
