Method

Fries Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Fries

Preheat the fryer or oven according to package instructions for the frozen French fries. If using a fryer, fill it with vegetable oil and heat until it reaches 175°C (350°F).

  2. 2

    Fry or Bake

Add the frozen fries to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the fryer. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. If baking, spread fries on a baking sheet and bake according to package instructions, usually around 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.

  3. 3

    Season

Once cooked, remove fries from the oil or oven and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt to taste.

Chili Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook the Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onions become translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 7

    Add Beans

Once simmering, add the drained kidney beans to the skillet. Stir well and let it cook for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Dish

On a large serving platter or individual plates, layer the crispy fries at the bottom.

  2. 9

    Top with Chili

Spoon the hot chili mixture generously over the fries.

  3. 10

    Add Cheese and Toppings

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the chili while it's still hot so it melts. Finally, top with chopped green onions and a dollop of sour cream.
