Biscuit & Gravy Ingredients

Method

Directions for Biscuit & Gravy

  1. 1

    Make the Biscuits

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk until just combined. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently. Roll out to 1-inch thickness and cut biscuits using a biscuit cutter. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Sausage Gravy

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Remove the sausage and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with black pepper and return the sausage to the skillet. Stir to combine and keep warm.

  3. 3

    Cook the Eggs

In a separate pan, cook the eggs to your liking—scrambled, fried, or poached.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Dish

Place a biscuit on a plate, top with sausage gravy, and serve alongside the cooked eggs and your choice of cheese grits or fried potatoes.
