Burger Patties

Burger Assembly

Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Forming the Patties

In a large bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Use your hands to mix the seasoning evenly throughout the meat. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and loosely form them into balls, about the size of a golf ball.

  2. 2

    Smashing the Patties

Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until hot. Place the meatballs onto the skillet, leaving space between them. Using a heavy spatula, smash each ball down into a flat patty, about 1/2 inch thick. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the edges are browned.

  3. 3

    Adding Cheese

Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness.

Assembling the Burgers

  1. 4

    Preparing the Bun

While the burgers are finishing, slice the burger buns in half and lightly toast them on the skillet for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

  2. 5

    Layering the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, place a layer of lettuce, followed by the smashed burger patty with melted cheese. Top with slices of tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard.

  3. 6

    Finishing Touch

Place the top half of the bun on each assembled burger. Serve immediately with your favorite side.
