Black Bean Burger Patty
Toppings
Method
Preparing the Black Bean Burger Patty
- 1
Mash the Black Beans
In a large bowl, drain and rinse the canned black beans. Use a fork or a potato masher to mash the beans until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.
- 2
Mix the Ingredients
Add the bread crumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin powder, salt, black pepper, and egg to the mashed black beans. Mix everything together until well combined.
- 3
Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
- 4
Cook the Patties
Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the black bean burger patties. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and heated through.
Assembling the Burger
- 5
Prepare the Buns
Lightly toast the burger buns in the same skillet or a toaster until golden brown.
- 6
Add the Cheese
Place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each cooked black bean patty in the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt slightly.
- 7
Layer the Toppings
On the bottom half of each bun, spread a generous amount of guacamole. Place a lettuce leaf, followed by the melted black bean burger patty with cheese, a slice of tomato, and a drizzle of chipotle aioli.
- 8
Complete the Burger
Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately, with additional chipotle aioli on the side if desired.
