Mussels

Garlic Wine Butter Sauce

Method

Preparing the Mussels

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the mussels under cold running water, scrubbing the shells with a brush to remove any dirt or debris. Remove any beards by pulling them away from the shell.

  2. 2

    Check for Freshness

Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped. Also, discard any broken shells.

Making the Garlic Wine Butter Sauce

  1. 3

    Melt the Butter

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 5

    Add Wine and Seasonings

Pour in the dry white wine, lemon juice, lemon zest, and freshly cracked black pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

Cooking the Mussels

  1. 6

    Steam the Mussels

Add the cleaned mussels to the saucepan, cover with a lid, and steam for about 5-7 minutes until the mussels open. Discard any mussels that do not open.

  2. 7

    Finishing Touches

Once the mussels are cooked, stir in chopped fresh parsley and adjust seasoning with salt as needed.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Mussels

Serve the steamed mussels in bowls, ladling the garlic wine butter sauce over them. Garnish with additional parsley and lemon wedges, if desired.
